Scottsdale, AZ PRWEB (Vocus) December 11, 2008 -- Retired heart surgeon Dwight lundell gave himself the perfect 65th birthday gift. He placed first in his class at the Arizona ironman competition.

His first place finish also qualifies him for the Kona, Hawaii Ironman competition.

As an added bonus Dr. lundell completed the course in less than thirteen hours with a time of 12 hours and 57 minutes.

Tens-of-thousands of triathletes try to get one of those coveted Ironman spots every year. Only 1,800 succeeded.

This is what he had to accomplish: TOTAL SWIM 2.4 mi. TOTAL BIKE 112 mi. TOTAL RUN 26.2 mi.

Dr Lundell finished the race in 10th place in his age group. Go Dr Lundell!!

He has been recognized by his peers as a leader, and has served as Chief resident at the University of Arizona and Yale University Hospitals and later served as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery.

He was one of the founding partners of the Lutheran Heart Hospital which became the second largest Heart hospital in U.S. and is now owned by Banner Health.

As a recognized leader in his field, Dr Lundell has consulted and advised for a variety of leading medical device manufacturers such as Cardio Thoracic Systems, Inc. before and after it’s acquisition by Guidant Corporation.

He advised St. Jude Medical on tissue valve implantation and marketing.

For A-Med, Inc., he consulted on, conducted, and published the first clinical study on miniature pumps for heart support.

He co-authored a clinical study validating key technology for Coalescent Surgical, which was subsequently acquired by Medtronic, Inc.
